Our Hometown Valparaíso – Weekend Travel Inspiration

This is our first Weekend Travel Inspiration post, and we wanted to keep it close to home…well it is home. Valparaíso, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is Francisco’s hometown, and my Chilean adopted hometown.
As you all know, we love to travel both near and far, but there’s something that always pulls us back home that is much stronger than responsibility or security. Despite all of the amazing things we’ve seen, we still love Valparaíso and continue to explore it’s colorful, rolling hills, uncover hidden gems, and see the city with bright, open eyes – a travelers state of mind.
At 20 years old, this was my first city abroad that I traveled to alone. With an open heart and open mind, I continue to learn more, and the city never ceases to surprise me with it’s history, people, places, and things that exude a complex character, soul, and culture. Valparaíso is the city where I caught an insatiable travel bug, but I know I’ll always be back to this port.

Oh that looks beautiful – love that shot through the window. #wkendtravelinspiration
LOVED Valparaiso when I visited, and I was sad to hear about the fire. Hope I’ll be able to visit again in the future… looks lovely! Glad to be hosting Weekend Travel Inspiration together!

I agree, traveling is amazing, but it’s nice to come home too. Especially to our adapted home. I am looking forward to co-hosting with the new team at Weekend Travel Inspiration.
I love to see such seaside scenery. No wonder painters found them worthy of art.

We visited Valparaiso last year. I absolutely adored it. The murals, the ascensors, the cerros, the lovely little restaurants and cafes. I wrote about it and posted some photos of the murals. I hope you don’t mind me posting a link but I was so enchanted by the city I want to share the photos – http://www.thetravellinglindfields.com/2014/04/the-murals-of-valparaiso.html
We left about a week before the terrible fires and kept hearing about them on the news while we were still in Sth America. I hope the city has begun to recover.

That photo looking out the window is wonderful. I’ve never been to Valparaiso. It looks so colorful in your picture and like there’d be so many places to wander and explore.
